* FINAL ASSIGNMENT: An Interview with a Person About How Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism Influence Their Life *

1. As a child growing up in China or Japan, what religion influenced you the most? How?

2. Do you have a religion that you believe in? How active are you in pursuing this religion?

3. How did you come to believe in this religion? Were you born into a family of the religion? Was it mandatory for you to become religious or was it you personal choice?

4. If you do not believe in a religion, why is it so? Have you never had a religion? Do you still believe in the concept of god and the heaven although you do not have a religion?

5. In Buddhism, the concepts of reincarnation and samsara are very important. Do you believe in these concepts? If so, what do you think is the most important in reaching nirvana?

6. Read the following quote.

The Duke of She told Confucius, "In my country there is an upright man named Kung. When his father stole a sheep, he bore witness against him." Confucius said, "The upright men in my community are different from this. The father conceals the misconduct of the son and the son conceals the misconduct of the father. Uprightness is to be found in this."

Who do you agree with more: Duke of She or Confucius? Is filial piety more important than the law?

7. If given the choices of government and laws, and nature and harmony as the guiding principles of life, which one would you choose? Why?

10. Another important characteristic of Christianity is its monotheistic beliefs. This means that you are to worship God and God only: no idol or ancestor worshipping is allowed. Would you still convert to Christianity? (if you have answered "yes" to question 9)
